Bio-Sand Filters

Bio-Sand Filters provide safe clean fresh water

Limited exposure, lack of education, dangerous cultural beliefs and poor empowerment of mothers, have led men in our village think that collecting, fetching and providing of water is a responsibility of mothers and girls within the homes. No worries mothers have a big role to play in the families as the men are marrying more women, get wasted by drinking and abusing alcohol and not providing to the family.

Now with HIV/AIDS killing many, women are always left with a full time responsibility to look after orphans. Waterborne diseases are responsible for a sizable number of death in our villages. So recently we decided to supply Bio-sand Water Filters donated to us to households of grannies who are looking after their grand orphaned Children within the village. The grannies were trained on how to use them. If effective and properly used, these Bio-Sand Filters can provide safe clean fresh water for the family for 25yrs.
