URICT UGANDA

Fish farming

When Louise Olofsson the Projects & Partnership Coordinator and Steve a Trustee at Emerge Poverty Free UK visited URICT Center early this month, they walked our Property and in the valley they saw that we can do some fish farming, so they hinted on it.

Fish farming can provide quality fish which is highly nutritious to the Children and Volunteers at the some time, we can sell some to the market to bring in some income.

So without wasting time 6 volunteers including me set out to dig a 12X12 and 8ft deep manually valley dam which we can use as a fish pond. Hellen from Jinja town bought for us a package of 250 fish which we have introduced into the water and its doing great. We hope to harvest some mature fish within 6-8months.

Very simple innovations and using local basic technology can bring positive change and development in the community.

Thanks Louise for the ideas. Thanks to the volunteers for the commitment to work and thanks to Mom Tammy Morrisonwho encourages us to always think outside the box and work towards self reliance.
